Abstract

An accident estimator for rural motorways is developed to the extent of accident cost per kilometre per day. The annual cost is found by integration over the normal frequency distribution of daily flows. For existing roads the angle x severity matrix is recommended. This may be averaged over a number of years. For other roads, particularly future roads, no accident estimators are available. Some tentative techniques are recorded. The treatment of isolated accident sites is demonstrated.
