Abstract

Cost benefit analysis was applied to assess the economic viability of hot-in-place recycling (HIPR) compared to mill-fill-overlay (MFO) treatments on two-lane rural roads. Present values of construction and maintenance costs, road user costs of travel time, accidents, and vehicle operation, and environmental costs due to construction and pavement deterioration are analysed, with surface roughness as the performance measure. Based on the analysis, the use of HIPR interchangeably with MFO is more economical, from the socio-economic point of view, than MFO-only policy. (A) The German title of this article is: Wirtschaftlichkeitsanalyse von Schwarzbelagrecycling im Heissverfahren.
