Abstract

This paper summarises the efforts and transport initiatives that have been introduced to promote the economic environmental regeneration of an industrial town in the West Midlands of England. Many of the initiatives have been introduced elsewhere. The difference here is that a comprehensive package of planning and engineering measures has been implemented within a clear strategy to achieve a major impact not only on travel but on environmental standards so as to promote Wolverhampton as a sub-regional centre and to restore pride in the people and hope in the future. (A) The German title of this article is: Die Wirtschaftliche und Umweltliche Verbesserung in Wolverhampton : ein Schritt nach vorne.
