Abstract

Economic, technical and political data in a transportation model determine the capacity of the inland water transport fleet. Economic characteristics of land and water transportation are compared, such as supply and demand relations, diseconomies of scale, investment and government intervention. Some statistics on the Dutch inland water fleet are presented.
