Abstract

This paper was presented at the "Low-volume highways and municipal road networks" session. These proceedings are available on CD-ROM. In response to government and industry initiatives to harmonize Ontario's truck weights and dimensions regulations with those in surrounding jurisdictions, and to assess the cost consequences of proposed regulatory changes, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation carried out a comprehensive cost study. The study examined the cost impacts on both the highway infrastructure (pavements and structures) and the transportation industry. This paper describes a methodology used to assess the monetary impact of changes in truck configuration and weight limits in terms of pavement damage only. (A)
