Abstract

This paper discusses some economic aspects of traffic safety and presents an empirical investigation of the value of traffic safety in Austria. This value is of crucial importance for the overall design of traffic safety policy since it is the dominant element in the benefit of traffic safety policy. According to the principles of cost-benefit analysis resources should be allocated to traffic safety policy as long as its (marginal) benefits exceed its (marginal) cost. (Author/publisher)
