Abstract

This paper discusses the City of Edmonton's experience with the Municipal Pavement Management System as it applies to the arterial/collector network. Some of the difficulties in implementing and using the system are documented. Unless visual condition data is reliable, objective data parameters are required to use the system with any degree of confidence. The effect of visual condition data variability on the timing of rehabilitation is presented. Software packages such as PASCO DIM tutor, are available for training field staff in visual condition data collection. These packages have the potential of improving data reliability and reducing data collection costs. The PASCO DIM tutor software package is discussed. (A)
