Abstract

This paper concerns traffic education for the general public. Traffic education should be considered as a lifelong process. Its aims are to promote a right attitude, to give people survival skills, to raise awareness of safety issues and to make people willing to accept road safety measures. Objectives for improved results in Nordic countries include systematic education, an integrated approach, promoting grass-roots initiatives and transferring theory to practice. Information is made more effective by being linked to other safety operations. Individual strong campaigns were believed to be effective in the past but better results are achieved by campaigns recurring over several years. For the covering abstract see ITRD E118917.
