This paper discusses some of the education, training and publicity initiatives implemented in the county of Staffordshire, UK, to improve road safety. Schools are offered a comprehensive road safety programme and walking to school is encouraged. A pedestrian training programme has been developed for children. Driver training includes discounted advanced driver training after the driving test and speed awareness courses. Publicity campaigns include commercial radio, local newspapers and bus-back advertising with a common theme slogan. Enforcement measures including speed cameras have improved casualty figures.
