Abstract

The only requirement to drive a moped in the netherlands is the minimum age of 16 years old. The consequence of this is that for most young moped riders driving is a question of trial and error. By experience the moped driver has to learn how to behave in traffic. Therefore a training course was set up for young moped drivers. The main purpose of the course was to give an insight into the knowledge, information and skill which is needed for driving a moped. The starting point was the accident proneness of the young moped driver, the ignorance of the traffic regulations, in particular the rule of priority and the lack of ability in vehicle handling. The need for a driving licence for moped riders is stressed.
