Abstract

A parking system based on the principles of dynamic traffic management is supposed to solve the problems which nowadays occur in city centres. Since these problems are mostly caused by motor traffic, the aim is to reduce downtown motor traffic, to increase the environmental quality and to strengthen the level of economic development. A parking space reservation system has been developed in order to reduce superfluous motor traffic by regulating the demand of parking places. Therefore, the use of telematics is essential. Such a system can also guarantee the driver a free parking lot on a self chosen location downtown. This allocation system controls the whole parking space in the city centre area, and offers new applications, like a dynamic parking rate based on the usage of the parking lots during the day. To prove the effective functioning of the parking space reservation system, a simulation model has been developed. The results appear to be positive, a decrease in motor traffic is expected.
