Abstract

The replacement of red by "blinking yellow" has been investigated on 6 different pedestrian crossings in the city of Delft with the aim of evaluating the effects on pedestrian behaviour. It was concluded that comfort at the experimental pedestrian crossings had been improved by the introduction of blinking yellow. It was also concluded that crossing during blinking yellow had by itself not become more dangerous than crossing during the red light previously.
