Abstract
About eighty percent of the accidents with injury in urban areas occurs on arterial roads. The spatial distribution of these accidents is far from uniform. This is of course mainly due to the strong differences between the functional characteristics of the arterial roads. SWOV research indicates that a typology of road sections with accident concentrations can be based on only a few characteristics.
