Abstract

On A40, When the 50 mile/h limit was imposed, there was a reduction in mean speed of private cars of about 3 mile/h. The number of private cars exceeding 50 mile/h was reduced by nearly one -half. The imposition of the speed limit on some roads appears to have had an effect on the speed of vehicles at a similar but unrestricted sites could have resulted from this reduction in vehicle speed.
