Abstract

As this roundabout was near several involved in the long 83-site experiment it was not surprising to find that drivers were mostly obeying the convention of right-hand priority before the announcement of the rule. No overall significant changes were found in capacity, precedence or gap acceptance, or in the distribution of vehicles in peak period flow. There was no increase in the proportion (less than 10% of cars observed) which were delayed for 20 seconds or more after passing a point 50 yards before the roundabout.
