Abstract

An empirical study was conducted to quantitavely assess the effect of headlights by through-street vehicles on the magnitudes of "safety" gaps accepted by motorists as they initiated intersection from urban stop-signed side streets. Surprisingly, the results and regression equations support an inverse, rather than direct relationship between headlights use and magnitude of gap or lag.
