Abstract

The driver of a minor road vehicle waiting at a major road intersection looks at approaching traffic to find a lag or gap that is acceptable for a safe entry or crossing. The speeds of the approaching major road vehicles may affect the acceptance decisions. Observations of a large number of morning peak period drivers are used to investigate that possible effect. The study found that the speed of the approaching vehicle has a significant effect on the gap acceptance decision.
