Abstract

With the improvement of Information and Communication Technology, providing information to travelers is becoming an effective method to release congestion and improve service for travelers. Drivers Information System will play an important role in improving information service for drivers and support traffic control and management. In Shanghai, a Drivers Information System covering the whole urban expressway network will be constructed as a subsystem of ATIS (Advanced Traveller Information System) of Shanghai. It is planned to provide travelers with dynamic information by VMS (variable message sign), radio and in-vehicle device. To provide useful data for the construction of Drivers Information System, a study aiming to analyze route choice characteristic by drivers on the condition of dynamic information was conducted. In this paper, attention is focused on how the drivers who have lack of experience of ATIS choose their routes under dynamic information. Some findings and two models based on data from SP (stated preference) surveys and computer tests are discussed. (A*)
