Abstract

The purpose of this program was to determine the effect of proper commercial vehicle inspection and maintenance procedures on safety and to document the need for improved or modified inspection and maintenance requirements as stated in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. It is concluded that there is an identifiable relationship between good inspection and maintenance practices and a reduction in defect-related accidents.
