Abstract

This research was carried out between 2003 and 2005 at Opus International Consultants, Central Laboratories, Lower Hutt. Research has focused on chipseal surfaces constructed using greywacke aggregate from two quarries. This research was to determine the relationships between (a) aggregate microtexture, (b) percentage of crushed faces, (c) chip shape, and (d) skid resistance with the main focus being on determining the effect of crushing on skid resistance. The PSV, GripNumber and British Pendulum Number (BPN) results from core samples and laboratory-prepared chipseal surfaces that show the relationships are presented. (Author/publisher)
