Abstract

Research undertaken to ascertain the efficiency in terms of fuel consumption and exhaust emissions, the effectiveness, and the acceptability of "environmental traffic lights" are described. Three types of indicators were evaluated. (A) digital indicators of the remaining red time (count down indicators); (B) turn engine off /on signals; (C) recommended "turn engine off" indicated by an additional signal showing the pictogram of a key.
