Abstract

The basic objective of this report is to bring together the information which has become available on the effect of the most recent fuel shortage. Estimates of the derived safety benefits and fuel conservation are presented in the report and are based on a large body of data for both years 1973 and 1974. Major emphasis is placed in assessing the safety and conservation effects of the 55mph national speed limit. A limited list of both qualitative and quantitative conclusions are also included.
