Abstract

The division of responsibilities for road safety matters in the U.K., and the current accident pattern are described. The main part of the paper discusses the effectiveness of local measures in each of three groups:Road engineering, vehicle engineering and road user behaviour setting them in the context of the national measures available in each group.
