Abstract

The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1966 imposed new responsibilities on manufacturers of commercial motor vehicles, on truck and equipment manufacturers, and on dealers and distributors who offer these vehicles or equipment for resale. Applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards are charted, and responsibility for compliance and certification as divided between the original vehicle manufacturer and subsequent dealers and distributors is discussed.
