Abstract

Measurements of the effect of road surface texture on tyre wear have been reported previously for the test surfaces at Crowthorne. A second series of tests which was carried on a range of surfaces exposed to normal traffic are described. Results show that the expressions derived using the test track surfaces are valid for normal roads. Expressions are given for predicting the relative wear rates of surfaces from the texture and frictional properties derived by combining the results of both series of tests.
