Abstract

During 1972-1977 ten serious accidents in automatic operating garage doors have been reported in Sweden. In all but one of the studied accidents the door did not reverse and the thorax of the victims was compressed during 5 to 20 minutes. In order to evaluate the effect on cardiopulmonary function of permanent compression of the thorax and experimental study was performed and the results are presented.
