Abstract

An experiment was conducted to investigate the way in which the performance of pedestrians who wish to cross a well-lit road at night in front of a moving vehicle, is affected by the type of lighting shown by the vehicles. Three types of vehicle lighting were used in the experiment: (1) sidelights (separate from headlight units); (2) dimmed headlights; and (3) normal dipped headlights. For purposes of comparison the pedestrians' performance in daylight was also studied. (A)
