General guarantee, up to a reasonable degree, of accessibility by public transport is one of the indispensable pillars for a policy that is directed towards a substantial reduction of car traffic. For a specific area (the Dutch city of Amersfoort and its surroundings) this point of departure is further elaborated. (A)
