The effectiveness of the New South Wales streetlighting subsidy scheme

Abstract

A study of accident rates over two year periods before and after relighting of urban traffic routes is described. Results indicate a reduction in night time casualty accidents of 28%. Cost comparisons indicate that costs of lighting are one-half or less than cost of accidents saved.
