Abstract

Studies on restraint effectiveness in the USA indicate that lap shoulder belts are effective in reducing fatalities as well as serious and critical-to-life injuries to occupants of passenger cars. Estimates of the effectiveness of passive systems also indicate a marked reduction in the more serious injuries and fatalities.
