Effectiveness of seat belt wearing and seat belt laws. International review and Swedish experience.

Abstract

Seat belt use rates and seat belt laws in different countries are reviewed and various factors influencing belt use under voluntary and mandatory conditions are discussed. Special attention is paid to the experience from the Swedish seat belt law and the recently implemented compulsory belt wearing law in Britain. Some strategies for increasing seat belt usage are outlined and the importance of a comprehensive approach is emphasized.
