Abstract

The study was conducted to determine the effects the Alabama Auto Check automotive diagnostic inspection facility has had on the accident rate of Huntsville residents having accidents in Madison County, Alabama. A previous study indicated that the inspected vehicle was 12 percent less likely to be involved in an accident. The previous study observed the accident history of individual vehicles for 13 months and used one method of determining accident rate improvement. The present study on the other hand, observed the vehicles for 21 months and with the larger sample size used three independent methods of determining accident rate improvement.
