Abstract

The aim of the study was to determine the safety effects of defensive driver training intended for the drivers of heavy vehicles, and to obtain information for the further development of the training. All the drivers of a particular bus company took part in the defensive driver training. In order to determine the safety effects, the traffic accidents of the company were monitored over a four-year period, 1989-1990 (prior to the training) and 1991-1992 (after the training). The monitoring showed that the accidents of the bus company fell 65% in the period after the training. (For the Finnish version of this report, see IRRD 867992).
