Abstract

Falling asleep and rowdiness are important factors in highway accidents. Roadside rests are created to help the tired motorist. Roadside rests are officially designated as part of the federal highway system. A recent study of roadside rest effectiveness includes a formula and eight-step plan for deciding where to place these rest facilities based on a derived relationship between time-on-road and accident rate.
