Abstract

Regulatory and other activities of the Federal Government affecting urban freight transports are discussed. The Interstate Commerce Commission establishes commercial zones in which transportation is exempt from economic regulation; the boundaries of a given zone determine whether a cargo can be transported directly to a location or reloaded to a local carrier. With the growth of huge urban corridors this practice is outdated. Some solutions are proposed.
