Abstract

The Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management set itself the objective of reducing the number of serious traffic accident victims: to a maximum of 750 fatalities in 2010 and 580 fatalities in 2020; to a maximum of 17,000 hospitalised casualties in 2010 and a maximum of 12,250 hospitalised casualties in 2020. The Ministry developed a new traffic safety Strategic Plan to achieve this objective: 'Veiligheid van, voor en door iedereen' or ‘Safety of, for and by everyone’. The plan is a further elaboration and fulfilment of the policy formulated in the Policy Document on Mobility, to which a new package of conduct measures has also been added. This report assesses whether the plan’s objectives can be achieved. (Author/publisher)
