Abstract

With effect from 1 October, 1972, a limitation of speed to 100 km/h on roads with less than two lanes in each direction outside built-up areas was introduced by way of experiment for a period of several years. In order to be able to assess the effects of this measure on safety and traffic and on traffic operations, a study was made. After weighing the pros and cons the recommendation can be given to retain "Speed limit 100" as a general limitation of the speed on roads outside built-up areas (motorways expected).
