Abstract

The effectiveness of various combinations of flaps, side- skirts and air deflectors on the visibility of passenger car drivers passing tractor- trailer trucks on wet highways is evaluated. Drivers made ratings of the visibility before and while passing large trucks when the roads were wet, it was raining or snowing. It was found that trucks equipped with spray suppressing devices at all axles with and without air deflectors, provided better visibility and less spray to passing drivers than non- equipped trucks.
