Abstract

In 1975 the Dutch Ministry of Transport introduced a fund for the construction of rural and urban bicycle facilities. This Act was abolished in 1985. During that decade some 500 million guilders were spent on subsidies. The following items are discussed (1) What was the reason to start subsidizing bicycle facilities (2) What has been achieved during that decade, and (3) What are the effects of this act.
