Abstract

The prerequisite for a successful ITS-concept is the precise analysis of the present traffic conditions and a simulation based evaluation as accurate as possible of the effectiveness of the proposed ITS applications. For this purpose, a multi-tier simulation of the traffic flow was carried out within this project. In order to generate the data basis which is required for traffic simulation and to obtain a dynamic overview of the traffic conditions prevailing on the Middle Ring in Munich, a novel data collection method was chosen: The photogrammetric aircraft survey of the Middle Ring. Simultaneously, a probe car data collection took place in order to supplement the macroscopic data with vehicle related data. This innovative way of data collection has been used as well for traffic analysis, O-D estimation and traffic flow simulation as for calibration of the microscopic simulation. After modifying the traffic supply and demand, ITS applications have been simulated and evaluated. (A*)
