Abstract

Two broad categories of elements (traffic and highway factors) which influence the urban environment are discussed. Counter measures to alleviate environmental problems are discussed and evaluated. The need for international research on low noise and pollution level vehicles and for more research into highway factors (visual intrusion, land use, etc.) is stressed.
