Abstract

Early models of car following utilized a point mass model of the automobile dynamics and were concerned primarily with a macroscopic view of car following theory. Based on that theory, the asymptotic of a string of cars was computed for various dynamic models of the vehicle. The results are compared and the limitations of the theory are discussed.
