Abstract

One of the major traffic bottlenecks and safety concerns on today's busy roads occurs during freeway merges. "Advanced Freeway Merge Assistance: Harnessing the Potential of IntelliDrive,SM*" is an Exploratory Advanced Research (EAR) Program project designed to improve the efficiency and safety of freeway merges using IntelliDrive. This project was awarded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in 2009, and is being conducted by the University of Virginia Center for Transportation Studies (UVA CTS). (Author/publisher)
