Abstract

Real-time traffic information through variable message signs (VMS) enables not only drivers to plan a trip and decide a route, and promote abilities against the accident and incident, but also road operators (or managers)to control the demand indirectly. If efficient traffic information were disseminated for drivers by VMS, it is possible to disperse the concentrated traffic volume and to maximize the road traffic network throughput. Although it is serviced now, earlier researches lacked information about whether the drivers is satisfied with the information, so the dissemination of traffic information is operated from the side of providers, not of users. The key point of road traffic network throughput maximization is how the drivers react to traffic information. In other words, an efficient information dissemination scheme has to be established on the basis of driver's response, satisfaction index, and improvements to disseminating information.Considering those, this study conducts a field survey, and analyzes CSI (Customer Satisfaction Index) and IPA (Importance Performance Analysis). The proposed efficient information dissemination scheme is need to (1) supplement VMS for disseminating useful information to route choice and (2) liaise with various traffic disseminating devices for rapid and exact information.
