Abstract
The degree to which travelers respond to changes in the cost of their journeys, as measured by the elasticity of demand for travel, is of importance in modeling their behaviour in the theoretical transport studies used to assess the benefits of proposed schemes. This report reviews and compares values of the flexibility of demand for travel from ten different sources. In cases where the data base is available, the calculations of elasticity are examined and the sensitivity of the values obtained to the assumptions made is tested. The results are given.
