Abstract

The elderly are a segment of society especially vulnerable to accidents and injury. The accident environment on the highway, in the home, and at work is reviewed for this group as are some intrinsic age factors that may be associated with accident causation. Stressed are, (1) the need for discovering and compiling information for environment and man-machine design appropriate to the elderly, and (2) that safety research design and countermeasures be guided by a concern for the total needs of the older person.
