Abstract

Statistics are presented to illustrate the modal split between private and public transport in Italy, and the energy consumption of each transport mode. The percentage of urban traffic using fuel as opposed to electric power is also presented, and a case made for the greater use of electrically powered public transport. Recent advances in such transport modes are reviewed briefly, and recent innovations made to introduce such methods in Italy described.
