Abstract

The operating principles of a programmed city driving system are explained: desired destination is fed to a central processing unit, which transmits the driving instruction back to the vehicle by coded signals. A traffic control computer indicates speeds and sets traffic signals, as fed by vehicle detectors. Equipment necessary both in the vehicle and in the road and in the control centre is briefly described.
