Abstract

In the discussion for an electronic license plate in the Netherlands the scope has been narrowed to simply electronic vehicle identification (EVI). EVI can be looked upon as a basic component in terms of: - An infrastructure for dynamic, electronic vehicle identification, making use of vehicle-roadside communication; - A platform for services aimed at vehicle management and guidance. One of the services to be installed on the EVI-platform is the electronic license plate. However, the platform can be used in a whole set of public and private services in which identification of the vehicle plays a central role. EVI might integrate and strengthen developments supported by a diversity of organizations. So, EVI can be the foundation for ITS-services. For the covering abstract see IRRD E102946.
