Abstract
A description is given of research on the responses to light stimuli of single units in the lateral geniculate nucleus of the macaque. The colour and brightness coding in the visual system is discussed on the basis of some experiments. The significance is raised of this type of experiments for the understanding of the processes of visual perception.
